SIDE EFFECTS Retinal detachment, malignant glaucoma, eustachian tube disturbances, middle ear disturbances, visual disorders, blurred vision, conjunctival irritation, follicular conjunctivitis, myopia, lacrimal passage stenosis. DRUG INTERACTION Tell your doctor of all prescription and nonprescription medication you may use. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval. MECHANISM OF ACTION Pilocarpine nitrate is a cholinergic parasympathomimetic agent. It increase secretion by the exocrine glands, and produces contraction of the iris sphincter muscle and ciliary muscle (when given topically to the eyes) by mainly stimulating muscarinic receptors.
