CompositionLignocaine (2%),Adrenaline (0.022 mg) SALT INFORMATIONLignocaine (2%) TYPICAL USAGE Pulseless ventricular fibrillation or ventricular tachycardia, epidural anaesthesia, spinal anaesthesia, surface anaesthesia, percutaneous infiltration anaesthesia, peripheral nerve block. SIDE EFFECTS Dizziness, paraesthesia, drowsiness, confusion, respiratory depression and convulsions. DRUG INTERACTION Lignocaine is known to interact with other drugs like acebutolol, atazanavir, bisoprolol, carvedilol, Darunavir, esmolol, etravirine, metoprolol, penbutolol, quinupristin, tamoxifen, telithromycin, thiothixene, tramadol, voriconazole. Always consult your physician for the change of dose regimen or an alternative drug of choice that may strictly be required. MECHANISM OF ACTION Lidocaine stabilizes the neuronal membrane by inhibiting the ionic fluxes required for the initiation and conduction of impulses thereby effecting local anesthetic action. Lidocaine alters signal conduction in neurons by blocking the fast voltage gated sodium (Na+) channels in the neuronal cell membrane that are responsible for signal propagation. Adrenaline (0.022 mg) TYPICAL USAGE Acute asthma, Anaphylactic shock, Advanced cardiac life support. Ocular hypertension. Open angle glaucoma. SIDE EFFECTS CNS effects; GI disturbances; epigastric pain; CV disorders; difficulty in micturition with urinary retention; dyspnoea; hyperglycaemia; sweating; hypersalivation; weakness, tremors DRUG INTERACTION Halogenated inhalation anaesthetics; ?- or ?-blocking agents; methyldopa, guanethidine; drugs with vasoconstrictor and pressor effects MECHANISM OF ACTION Epinephrine(Adrenaline), an active principle of the adrenal medulla, is a direct-acting sympathomimetic. It stimulates ?- and ?-adrenergic receptors resulting in relaxation of smooth muscle of the bronchial tree, cardiac stimulation and dilation of skeletal muscle vasculature. It is frequently added to local anaesthetics to retard diffusion and limit absorption, to prolong the duration of effect and to lessen the danger of toxicity.
