DRUG INTERACTION Lignocaine is known to interact with other drugs like acebutolol, atazanavir, bisoprolol, carvedilol, Darunavir, esmolol, etravirine, metoprolol, penbutolol, quinupristin, tamoxifen, telithromycin, thiothixene, tramadol, voriconazole. Always consult your physician for the change of dose regimen or an alternative drug of choice that may strictly be required. MECHANISM OF ACTION Lidocaine stabilizes the neuronal membrane by inhibiting the ionic fluxes required for the initiation and conduction of impulses thereby effecting local anesthetic action. Lidocaine alters signal conduction in neurons by blocking the fast voltage gated sodium (Na+) channels in the neuronal cell membrane that are responsible for signal propagation. It stimulates ?- and ?-adrenergic receptors resulting in relaxation of smooth muscle of the bronchial tree, cardiac stimulation and dilation of skeletal muscle vasculature. It is frequently added to local anaesthetics to retard diffusion and limit absorption, to prolong the duration of effect and to lessen the danger of toxicity.
